Claiming Medicare Rebates for Psychology Sessions

Access Affordable Mental Health Care in Australia

Medicare rebates make psychological support more accessible and affordable for eligible Australians. You could receive up to:

  • $89.65 per session for a registered psychologist
  • $131.65 per session for a clinical psychologist

Book an extended appointment with your GP to get a Mental Health Plan and a referral letter1

Pay for your Psychologist’s Session1

You will be charged the private fee after your session. Part of this session fee can be rebated through a Medicare self-claim.

Receive an Invoice

Your psychologist will provide an invoice with session details and their AHPRA registration number, required for Medicare claims.

Submit Your Claim

Log in to MyGov, link your Medicare service, and upload the invoice. Medicare will process the claim and deposit the rebate into your account.
